Financials:
Second quarter earnings for EA were “$255 million in profits on $1.28 billion in revenues,” Gamasutra’s Alex Wawro reports. “Lower-than-expected forecasts for next quarter — the big holiday quarter — seem to have driven EA’s stock price down.”
Digital Bros. saw declines in revenue and profits “in the last fiscal year, largely due to a lack of major new releases,” GI.biz’s Matthew Handrahan writes. “The Italian company earned €76 million in gross revenue, mostly through the activities of its publishing label 505 Games. This represents a 42.7% decrease over the fiscal year ended June 2017.”
Ubisoft’s Q2 “reported H1 sales of €767 million ($870 million USD) and Q2 sales of €367.1 ($416.4 USD),” GI.biz’s Rebekah Valentine reports.
Console Sales:
The Nintendo Switch has officially outsold the GameCube with over 21.74 million sales, Eurogamer’s Wesley Yin-Poole reports.
The PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 Pro have sold more than 86.1 million units, IGN’s Jonathan Dornbush reports.
EA CEO Andrew Wilson “said that on a long enough timeline, video games may get closer to TV, movies, and music where the content you consume is not bound to any one specific piece of hardware” during EA’s Q2 earnings call, GameSpot’s Eddie Makuch reports.
Additionally, EA COO and CFO Blake Jorgensen revealed Respawn Entertainment is “working on more than one new game with Electronic Arts due out by next holiday season,” Variety’s Brian Crecente reports.
