Gamescom is going digital. The German video game trade fair was originally scheduled to take place at the end of August. The event will still occupy the Aug 27th-30th dates, but will now be entirely digital. Gamescom is being developed so participants have content from four different pillars: the main hub from gamescom now, a show format, cooperation mode, and devcom. In the US, millions of people have lost their jobs due to the COVID-19 pandemic. CNBC’s Bob Woods writes that esports is among the few industries that are seeing a reduced impact, and may even still be thriving. He also takes a look at the broad landscape of the esports job market. “Thanks to esports — plus the $150 billion gaming industry from which this phenomenon evolved — thousands of great jobs are being scored in this one bright spot of an otherwise depressed employment landscape.”
Riot Games has announced the Mid-Season Streamathon. The event will help raise money for COVID-19 relief. The Streamathon will be a multi-day, continuous broadcast featuring a variety of content from regions around the world, including competition between leagues, exhibition matches, and much more.
