Mixer has ceased operations. The Microsoft owned streaming service is no more. Mixer partnered with Facebook Gaming to give an opportunity for their partners to transition over if they wanted to. This obviously will affect a large community of gamers who built their brands on Mixer. It also means that huge personalities that signed exclusivity contracts with Mixer like Ninja, Shr0ud and King Gothalion are free agents. They received their contract values in full and can now stream wherever they want. You can read the full announcement from Mixer here.
It seems we have a revolution on our hands. The good kind. We mentioned in Monday’s newsletter that there were many allegations brought up across the gaming/esports industry of misbehavior and sexual misconduct over this past weekend. The trend has continued into this week. Taylor Lorenz and Kellen Browning at The New York Times try their best to summarize what all of these allegations mean to the industry as a whole, and what we can expect moving forward. To those who have been hurt or betrayed or belittled; we believe you, we hear you and we will not shy away from helping you tell your stories if you want them heard.
