Nintendo is closing in on 20 million Switchs sold, VentureBeat’s Dean Takahashi reports. “Nintendo reported net sales of $1.513 billion for the first fiscal quarter ended June 30 … Profit in the quarter was $394.6 million, up 42 percent … It has sold 19.67 million Nintendo Switch consoles to date and 86.9 million games.”
PlayStation raked Sony in a pretty penny, GI.biz’s James Batchelor reports. “Sales and operating revenue for the three months ended June 30th were up by 5% year-on-year to ¥1.95 trillion ($17.9 billion).”
Vainglory “has earned $50 million in gross revenue worldwide across both Andoid and iOS” since 2014, GI.biz’s Rebekah Valentine reports. “The game is the third most successful mobile MOBA in terms of player spending.”
Area 35 CEO Hiroaki Yura and Tariq Lacy, a former employee, have settled a defamation lawsuit in Japan. “Lacy has agreed to publicly apologize for alleging Yura embezzled from the Project Phoenix Kickstarter,” USGamer’s Matt Kim reports.

Richard Marks, “an engineer who has worked on experimental PlayStation tech … joined Google in one of their high-profile hirings of video game engineers and futurists,” Takahashi writes.

Wizards District Gaming and MedStar Health are partnering, Esports Insider’s Melany Moncav reports. “Under this deal, the MSE training facilities are changing names, including the MedStar Wizards District Gaming Studio.”
Spacestation Gaming and UberEats are partnering, TEO’s Trent Murray writes. “Spacestation Gaming has signed a sponsorship deal with UberEats which includes jersey branding and content activations. SSG players will also receive UberEats credits each month.”
Blizzard Entertainment and World of Warcraft YouTuber Bellular are partnering to “help teach new and returning players the ropes. For the next few weeks leading up to the expansion — and about a month after — Blizzard will release new videos each week, with each focusing on a different aspect of World of Warcraft,” Polygon’s Ryan Gilliam reports.
