I’m just sitting here watching the wheels go round and round. Another Overwatch League commissioner, well, isn’t the commissioner anymore. Pete Vlastelica is out. He had previously taken over when the first OWL commissioner, Nate Nanzer, left the company to work at Epic Games. Vlastelica, who also serves as president and CEO of Activision Blizzard Esports, resigned from his position as commissioner, but will retain his position as president and CEO. The OpTic Gaming brand has been sold…again. The fun twist? It’s going back to one of its original faces! In another report from Kevin Hitt, he says that Hector “H3CZ” Rodriguez, who is the current co-owner and CEO of NRG Esports, has reacquired OpTic Gaming in a deal separate from any ties associated with NRG. Rodriguez has reportedly purchased the OpTic Gaming IP in its entirety and, in practice, the Call of Duty League (CDL) slot associated with the Los Angeles franchise. The CDL will have to approve the transaction in order for it to go through.
Twitch is making it easier for creators to use music while streaming. The issue has been a hot button topic over the past few months after a surge of DMCA claims saw creators having their channels banned. Soundtrack by Twitch will introduce rights-cleared music for all Twitch creators. Playlists and stations are curated by Twitch music curation staff, as well as select streamers and industry partners.
