Well, apparently the entire world was too busy playing Valorant (except for me, who has yet to get his key. No, I’m not salty about it all. I haven’t watched over 90 hours of streams since the beta launched. Me? Nah.) to make news happen this weekend. Today’s Walkthrough will be short and sweet.
Online entertainment was hitting its stride well before the coronavirus pandemic hit. Now, with everyone inside and looking in every corner of the internet to amuse themselves, streaming has become even more lucrative than it was the couple years before. David Segal of the New York Times writes about Ben “DrLupo” Lupo, and the greater world of streaming. “It’s hard to think of a job title more pandemic-proof than superstar live streamer.”
Some things never change. Mainstream media poking fun at gaming culture, without fully understanding it, is one of those things. This past week’s Saturday Night Live had a sketch of a streamer. It went about as well as you would expect it to. You can check out the sketch here. One thing they nailed? The generic EDM music.
