In lieu of E3, a new event has been planned by The Game Awards creator, Geoff Keighley. Summer Games Fest will run from May to August of this year. It will be an all encompassing event of announcements, reveals, panels, interviews and demos from game developers for the gaming community. The list of developers said to be participating is staggering. The goal is to be a central “signpost” for the digital content that everyone is planning for the summer. Keighley explains, “We’re not trying to compete with anyone, but really trying to be this signpost directory to all the things that are happening.” The Summer Games Fest will be found on every major streaming platform. Patrick Shanley from The Hollywood Reporter has the full story. Geoff Keighley’s personal statement can be found here.
EVO, The biggest fighting game event of the year, has announced it will be moving to an online format. The community, of course, understands why the event has been cancelled, but many are concerned with the game lineup. How could the event possibly be played online given all the different games struggles with their own net codes and online infrastructure? We’ll have to wait and see.
